Are you bored with your mousy brown hair colour? Do you dream of transforming your dull locks with a vibrant new shade? Whether you want to give your natural red hair colour a boost, fancy a few face-framing highlights or simply want to cover up those unwanted grey hairs – we can help.

Here, the hair colour specialists at Alexander James hair salon in Halesowen & Solihull put to rest any concerns you might have about colouring hair for the first time…

You Must Have a Skin Test Before Your Hair Colour Appointment

Our colour services are available to men and women aged 16 and over. We insist you pop into the salon for a quick skin test at least 48 hours prior to your colour appointment to test for allergies to the colour range we use – it really does just take a minute!

You do not need to book an appointment for a skin test at Alexander James, however, we will not colour without a record of a skin test. How do we skin test? We simply dab a small amount of hair colour behind your ear which you should leave on your skin for at least 30 minutes. If you have had no reaction within 48 hours, we can go ahead with your hair colour.

Which Hair Colour & Technique Will Suit Me?

The answer to this depends on exactly what it is you are hoping to achieve. If you are thinking about colouring your hair because you want to try a new and exciting hair colour, then your colourist may use a different technique to if you wanted to disguise white hair.

Others want to boost their natural shade, whatever the reason behind your decision to colour your hair can, of course, we are on hand to help you choose the right shade and technique for you.  We suggest you book in for a complimentary hair colour consultation with an Alexander James colour expert first so we can help you find the perfect hair colour for you.

Should I Choose Temporary or Permanent Hair Colour?

Temporary Hair Colour – If you are colouring your hair for the first time, it might be sensible to start off with a temporary hair dye which will wash out over a few shampoos. Remember, however, that you can only go darker with temporary hair colour. If you want to lighten your hair, you will need to use a semi-permanent or permanent dye.

Semi-Permanent Hair Colour – You can achieve longer-lasting colour with a semi-permanent shade.  This is ideal if you want to subtly boost your natural hair colour or cover your first grey hairs.

Permanent Hair Colour – Permanent hair dye works by lifting the cuticles along the hair shaft and depositing the colour deeper within each hair strand.  Your colour will be permanent and your roots will need re-touching every eight weeks.

Smooth & Neat Wedding Hairstyles

Nothing says ‘classic’ bridal hairstyle quite like a traditional ballerina-style bun.  Wear it sleek and smooth or with a few loose tendrils for a more relaxed look.

Add a tiara or long veil to seriously elevate a classic bridal up-do.

Modern Hair Looks for Brides

Update a traditional low-slung ponytail or messy bun style with plaits and twists. Twists, braids and plaited bridal hairstyles are a great way to achieve a creative, fun wedding look.

The experienced wedding hair specialists at Alexander James hair salon advise a pre-wedding hair trial where you will discuss the best bridal hair ideas.

Modern, Sophisticated Bridal Hairstyles

Want a short bridal hairstyle? Tuck straight strands behind your ears to accentuate your cheekbones and show off that bridal glow. Keep hair smooth with a center part and adorn the minimalist look with a dainty hair accessory.

For sophisticated bridal hairstyles for those with longer hair, try the popular high bun or a chic chignon. Swirls and loose strands make it more of a relaxed wedding while still looking elegant.
