Should I Choose a Permanent or Semi Permanent Hair Colour?

Temporary Hair Colour: If you are colouring your hair for the first time, a temporary hair dye is a great place to start. Temporary colours fade with each wash however, you can only go darker with temporary hair colour. If you want to lighten your hair, you will need to use a semi-permanent or permanent dye.

Semi-Permanent Hair Colour: Perfect for covering those first unwanted grey hairs and for giving natural hair colours a boost.

Permanent Hair Colour: Permanent hair dye works by lifting the cuticles along the hair shaft and depositing the colour deeper within each hair strand.  Your colour will be permanent and your roots will need re-touching every eight weeks.

The Most Popular Hair Colouring Techniques

Toner: When you’ve pre lightened the hair, highlighted or full head, it’s always recommended that you use a toner on the hair as it naturalises any yellow/brassy tones.

Colour glossing: Preferably used on virgin or coloured hair on a similar base shade without grey to create tone and shine. Leaves a glossy finish and can add depth or richness to the colour.

Root Stretching & Colour Melts: We can ‘stretch’ or ‘drag’ out your roots, adding multi-dimensional shades, growing lighter towards the ends of your hair. No matter if you’re looking for a blonde, brunette, or red colour melt, or want a root stretch that blends the root colour with balayage tones, lowlights or highlights we have you covered at Alexander James, Solihull.

Ombre: A technique of lightening the hair and leaving a darker base so you can see the transition from dark to light, or dark to pastel.

Balayage: Similar to ombre but looks more subtle and blended. harder to detect the transition from dark to light as the dark has light scattered through.
